When Jesus Christ began His ministry here on earth (He came down from heaven) He was opposed and rejected by most of the Jewish leaders and rabbis of that time…as well as today. He was viewed as a fake and a fraud who lied about His credentials and His true identity. He was hated by many and despised by His own family members. Although He preached the truth and walked humbly before all; nevertheless, He was attacked both verbally and physically by His own countrymen. All He ever wanted to do is to show the people the way unto salvation and redemption, and yet they hated Him without a cause (Genesis 26:57-68).

Although Jesus was a Jew, He was hated and tormented by the Jews because He taught the truth and lived by it. The Jewish leaders sought to discredit him and kill him by the hand of Pilate, the governor of Judea, at that time. Pilate saw no reason for Jesus to be put to death, but the Jewish leaders and rabbis insisted that Pilate have him crucified on the cross. Finally, Pilate gave in and had Jesus crucified on the cross, but through the power of God, Jesus rose from the grave and is now at the right hand of God interceding on our behalf (Matthew 27:11-44). In the garden of Gethsemane just before His apprehension by servants of the high priest, Jesus prayed to His Father for strength to endure His crucifixion on the cross. At this point Jesus knew that He was all alone (Matthew 26:31). His apostles, including Peter, were not in tuned to the agony and suffering that Jesus was about to endure; in fact, they all had fallen asleep while Jesus prayed that this cup might be removed from Him (Matthew 26:39,42).

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came into the world to save sinners. Jesus, took on Himself the burden of becoming the “Sacrificial Lamb” that would take away the sins of the world. Tit for tat; eye for an eye; do me wrong and I’ll do you wrong; pay ‘em back, are all expressions that tend to favor revenge. And revenge seems to be the driving force in the lives of many human beings all around the globe. From powerful governments and heads of state to everyday people who feel they have been wronged; revenge seems to be the going antidote that most of us choose to use.

“Then came Peter to him (Jesus), and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him ‘ I say not unto thee, until seven times; but, until seventy times seven. Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.

Jesus continue speaking, ‘ and when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife., and his children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.’

Jesus expounds further, ‘ The servant therefore fell down, and worshiped him, saying, “Lord, have patience with me and I will repay thee all”. Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellow servants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, “pay me that thou owest”.

Jesus concludes telling the parable, ‘ So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, “O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me. Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee” ‘?
