November 6th, 2009 Keep Praying, Keep Believing, Keep Trusting, And Don’t Lose Faith
Each and everyday for more and more Americans and probably even more so for many people around the world; losing their job can be catastrophic in every sense of the word. For some, it is viewed as the beginning of the end with disastrous consequences just down the road. In certain areas of the country (United States) where unemployment hovers around 20 per cent, the prospect of finding new employment isn’t very encouraging. And to add insult to injury, prices for goods and services continue to rise; fuel prices seems to stabilize for a moment, only to slowly increase as the winter season quickly approaches.
For many, life has taken a difficult turn and times are tougher today than they were yesterday. Families that were living comfortably this time last year are now facing foreclosure; Dads, who for years provided a good stable income for their families are now idle, wondering how in the world they are going to take care of their wife and children. Mothers, who often worked and took care of the needs of their family are now unemployed and unable to give their families the very basics that they once took for granted. Children who had become accustomed to a certain living standard are now faced with a hard and stark reality that they have never known before.
Before this recession most Americans were experiencing life in an economy that was booming and life was good. Prosperity was in the air and everybody was breathing it in—it seemed. But the truth is, there has always been an underclass of people that have never really enjoyed the fruits of prosperity. From booming economy to mild depression, life has always been a struggle to simply get by. In times of economic bliss for others, it has been a constant battle of survival just to remain afloat; eking out a living the best way they could.
Becoming a Christian and receiving Jesus Christ as your saviour is truly the only way unto salvation, for there is no other name under heaven by which men can be saved (Acts 4:12), but it is very important to note that becoming a Christian and professing our faith; our belief, does not immune us against the harsh realities of living in a cold world. As Christians and disciples of Christ, we too face the possibility of unemployment, and everything that goes along with it: foreclosures; the inability to pay our bills; food shortages; lost of health care; homelessness, and complete financial ruin.
Our belief and faith in Christ does not exempt us from financial difficulties that can arise and create havoc in our household. Our belief and faith does not shield us from economical stress that an unhealthy economy can bring. As Christians, life can be even more difficult for us than for people who are not Christians simply because of who we are and what we believe and stand for. We know that first of all, the powers of darkness; Satan and his demons, are always aligned against us. They go out of their way to make life difficult and unpleasant for all of Jehovah God’s people. To the unsaved this might sound like foolishness, but to the saved we know that we wrestle against demonic forces (Ephesians 6:12) that wage a relentless war against all of God’s holy people. Their objective is to lead us away from Christ through persecution and through losing faith, and questioning whether our heavenly Father— through His Son Jesus Christ, can and will provide all that we need (Matthew 6:25).
We must beware and be aware of our adversary, Satan the devil, that seeks to destroy us and our faith in God Almighty and in Jesus Christ. His sole mission is to disqualify the Godhead (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), and our faith in the Godhead as well. Through public humiliation Satan attempts to make Christians look and sound like fools and idiots for their beliefs. It is true that demons work through people, but they also work directly against Christians. Ultimately, they want to see us dead, but far more importantly they want to see us die in our sins, that is, rejected by Christ because we gave up and turned away from our faith; they strive to make sure that “born again” Christians lose their salvation and die outside of Christ.
As Christians, we must realize that in these last days we will face even higher levels of persecution due to Satan’s all out attacks against God’s servants. And in addition to that, these are just some trying times that the world is faced with. Many economies around the world are spiraling downward with very little hope of an immediate recovery. As bad as things are now, it is not the first time that many Christians have faced difficult financial problems do to stuttering and anemic economies (Acts 11:27,28).
However, Jesus made it perfectly clear that God will take care of us, and that there was no need to worry or fret (Matthew 6:25-34) because God is very concerned about all His children and He will never forsake or abandon us in our time of need; instead, Jesus said all we had to do was ask and it would be given to us; knock, and the door would be open; seek, and we would find (Matthew 7:7). Many times we don’t receive because we don’t ask in faith.
Faced with hard times: foreclosures; bankruptcies;loss of all income/savings, we find it difficult to put our trust in God when it appears that each day we continue to get further and further behind. But don’t surrender to doubt; don’t lose faith because from your view point things are just not going to turn out good. With creditors at your door and constantly calling you on the phone— your car/truck, or both, are about to be repossessed any given day, please don’t succumb to doubt; don’t question God’s will or His ability to intervene and help you. When Jesus had finished fasting for forty days and forty nights, Satan the devil came to Him to try to get Jesus to sin through trickery, he asked Jesus ” If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written: ‘He (God) will command His angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” Jesus answered him, “It is also written: Do not put the Lord your God to the test’ “(Matthew 4:6-10). Be careful of falling into the traps of the wicked one who tries to get you to sin against God in your time of trials and tribulations. Remember to always trust God, even in the mist of a famine, and look to Him faithfully to help you through all of your problems (Psalms 121:1-8).
When it seems that your life is spiraling out of control, and you really don’t have a prayer—you really do! Jehovah (Yahweh/YHWH) God is faithful and just to help us in times of trouble and distress, and He lovingly reaches out to each of us when we faithfully wait on him (Psalms 27:14). It may seem that the floodgates are about to be let loose, and you’re about to drown with no hope and no help, but nevertheless, continue to trust in God (Psalms 23:1-6); continue to stand firm in your faith, and never, never stop praying. We don’t always understand the workings of God and His way of doing things, but there is one thing for sure, and that is; God is totally trustworthy and faithful to us beyond anything we could imagine.
Jesus said that He came so that we might have life more abundantly (John 10:9), and in another place he said, “Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask for bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?”(Matthew 6:9-11). God is love, and He is a caring Father that is always there for each and every one of His children (1John4:8). As loving parents, grandparents, guardians, uncles and aunts; we wouldn’t think of watching our love ones go homeless, unemployed, and destitute, if we had the means and the ability to help them out. There would be no question about it, we would gladly give them all that they needed and even more simply because we love them and insist on seeing them happy and healthy; that’s what love will do.
How much less do you think the God of heaven will do for those who seek to do His will; those who try to follow His commandments, precepts, and statues that He has given us to obey? And when we faithfully continue to pray, trusting that God is going to provide, though all around us things are beginning to fall apart; do you really think that God is going to just ignore our plight? I’m here to tell you He will not; cannot; shall not leave us in times of trouble because His “Holy Word” tells us so, and His “Word” is truth (Psalms 37:3,4). And in another place the Psalmist wrote:”I have been young, and now am old: yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or there seed begging bread” (Psalms 37:25).
At the height of your struggles praise Jehovah God! When it seems that the roof is about to cave in, Praise Jehovah God! When the furnace breaks down in the dead of winter, Praise Jehovah God! When they foreclose on your house, Praise Jehovah God! When they repossess your car, and your truck, Praise Jehovah God! When your credit reach the point that it is so bad no one is willing to lend you a dime, Praise Jehovah God. In all your troubles continue to Praise Jehovah God for what He has done for you; for what He is doing for you, and what He is going to do for you. Remember, you mustn’t doubt; believe with all your heart that Jehovah God will provide you with everything that you need and more, and give thanks as if you have already received it. Thank Him as though you have received your blessings and shout Hallelujah!
Stay in prayer and continue praising God day and night; night and day, without doubting; your prays will be answered according to God’s will. Yes, God’s does know what is best for us all and He will act accordingly…and you can put your faith in that. In closing, allow me to make this last point: our sins can and will prevent us from receiving blessings that the Lord has for us, and our refusal to repent and change directions can not only prevent us from receiving blessings from the Father, but it can also result in us grieving the Holy Spirit that can lead to rejection and everlasting damnation. Make sure to keep yourself in a righteous relationship with God and our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Buckle down when it appears that your life is spiraling out of control, and pray without ceasing; never doubting the word and the will of God (James 1:6-8), and trust Him to take care of you (Psalms 55:22). God is a faithful God, more so than we could ever begin to comprehend in our very finite understanding. Stand on your faith and don’t allow anyone or anything to cause you to doubt (Matthew 14:25-31).
As servants of the Most High God and disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ, we must take the gospel into all the world preaching and baptizing in the name of the Father; the Son, and the Holy Spirit and teaching/preaching the word of God ( Matthew 28:19,20), and God surely will take care of all our needs and reward us richly for believing faithfully and at the same time bringing forth good works (James 2: 17,18).
May the great God Jehovah, creator of heaven and earth richly provide for all your needs through His Son and our dear Saviour Jesus Christ. Until we meet again, may the grace of God be with you. Amen.
