November 8th, 2009 Walking In Faith: Jesus Is The Truth and The Light
It’s no wonder that many of us fail to have our prayers answered and our prayerful requests denied. It’s no wonder that time after time we are left pondering why God doesn’t hear us and our cry for help. Although we plead and even beg our prayers are only met with silence—no real action.
When that dreaded thing finally comes upon us, the very thing(s) we prayed against; the fearful encounter we desperately wanted to avoid, we all but surrender the little faith we thought we had and turn our backs on Jehovah God Almighty and our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ because they did not hear and answer our prayers and deliver us from what we prayed against.
I personally am guilty of all the above and my walk with Jesus Christ has been anything but faithful and obedient, yet, time and time again I have cried out in desperation too, only to be denied my prayerful requests. I walked around moping, disappointed, defeated and down right pitiful, thinking that God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ really wasn’t interested in me or my affairs. I really felt defeated and this didn’t just happen once in some isolated corner but on a number of occasions this scenario was played out.
I was faced with two choices: (1) go back and study the word of God and pray for a better understanding about my situation and ask Jehovah God to open my eyes to the truth so that I would find out why my prayers were going unanswered (2) and the other choice was to just give up and walk away convinced that God does not answer prayers, at least not my prayers anyway.
When I began to search the scriptures in earnest I noticed something that I hadn’t really focused on before, and that is; there are some definite conditions that must be met first before my prayers would be answered. In other words, Jehovah God is a loving and caring Father that delights in blessing His children its true (Psalms 37:3,4), but the holy scriptures also tells us that God does not even hear the prayers of the wicked. (Proverbs15:9,29).
Who is the wicked? Any and everyone that refuses to do the will of the God. You could have been baptized into Christ; you could have received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour; you could have confessed Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour and believed in your heart that Jehovah God raised Him from the dead and received salvation (Romans 10:9), but if you are still practicing wickedness your prays will go unanswered…just like mine did. Why? Because of our refusal to submit to the word and will of God and be obedient to His commandments and statues.
Jehovah God hates witchcraft (Deuteronomy 18:10-13), but He also equates rebelliousness with the same sin as witchcraft (1Samuel 15:23). When we choose to do what we want to do and not what Jesus Christ taught us to do we rebel against the word and the will of God. This type of conduct can grieve the Holy Spirit and unless it is immediately discontinued and repentance sought, it can grieve the Holy Spirit to the point of departure! Being disobedient to God is a very dangerous way to live for anyone, but especially for those of the household of faith (2 Peter 2:21-23). That’s why it is so important to make our calling and election sure (2 Peter 10-11).
But if we repent and do the things that Jesus taught us to do and believe with all our heart and soul that God will take care of us (Matthew 6:30), we will receive the blessings that we need from Him through His Son Jesus Christ that at the right hand throne of the Father faithfully interceding on our behalf (John 11:21). I found out that if you seek to be obedient to God’s will, He will never forsake us or abandon us in our hour of crisis…and it doesn’t matter how bad the situation is— God will provide (Matthew 7-11), and His word is truth, so continue to trust God and give thanks as if you have already received what you are praying for and He will answer your prayers every time—without fail. It is God’s will that we have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:9) that is why He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, into the world that the world might be saved through Him (John 3:16).
So brethren in Christ, do not think that Jehovah God; the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, is not concerned about your life and everything that it entails, because He really does love you and care about you. And He will richly bless those who worship Him in spirit and truth and faithfully trust Him to protect them and richly provide for all their needs—no matter who you are and where you live; for nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1:37).
In closing, I would just like to leave you with this: as servants of the most High God stay obedient to the word and will of God, praying always through our precious Saviour and eternal high priest, Jesus Christ. Do not lose faith when it appears that the worst has come upon you and you’re doomed; instead, keep on praying, keep on believing, and keep on having faith. Never give up hope that God will not come to your rescue, and trust Him to do so. Do not lean upon your own understanding, continue to trust the word of God and He will not disappoint you…and that’s a promise to God’s servants that we all can stand on and stand with.
May the grace of God be with you until we meet again. Amen and amen.
