GOD’S HOLY SPIRIT: YESTERDAY AND TODAY

“But now listen, O Jacob, my servant, Israel, whom I have chosen. This is what the Lord says–He who made you, formed you in the womb, and who will help you: Do not be afraid, O Jacob my servant, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen. For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring; and my blessings on your descendants”(Isaiah 44:1-3).

“Then he open their minds so they could understand the scriptures. He told them, ‘This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high’ ” (Luke 24:45-49).

“Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them, and said, ‘ All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the earth’ “(Matthew 28:16-20).

“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the “Holy Spirit” and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them” (Acts 2:1-4)

“Now there were staying in Jerusalem God fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. Utterly amazed, they asked: ‘Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans? Then how is it that each of us hears them in his own native language? Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Capadocia, Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs–we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” (Acts 2:5-12).

Long before the creation of mankind; long before the creation of heaven and earth and the seas, the Holy Spirit existed. In fact, it has never not existed, if you will. It is part of the Godhead: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit emanates from God the Father and is in total union with the Father and the Son. Although it is always in complete agreement with the Father and the Son, it is an entity in and of itself just like the Son–Jesus Christ (John 14:6-21).

The Holy Spirit has many attributes and qualities that has proven to be conflicting for some. For instance, it has power that in many cases has imbued some of God’s servants in both the old and new testament to accomplish feats that would have been impossible for humans to duplicate on their own (Exodus 31:1-11; Matthew 1:18).

Before the death and resurrection of Jesus the Holy Spirit would come upon God’s servants and enable them with the power to accomplish a task, but after Jesus’ death and resurrection and ascension back into heaven (from whence he came) the Holy Spirit would make His dwelling within the servants of Jehovah (Yahweh) God (John 14:25; 16:5-16).

As Christians and disciples of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ we have been blessed with the added assurance of the Holy Spirit dwelling within us as well as guiding us and instructing us what to do and say; when to do; how to do, and where to do what God Almighty has given us to do (Acts 4:8; 8:26; 13:1-11).

The Holy Spirit is the free gift (Acts 8:9-24) that Jehovah God gives to His servants, and only His servants (not the world) who are devoted disciples of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Today, the Holy Spirit which is known by several names: Spirit of Christ; Comforter; God’s Spirit; Spirit of the Lord; Counselor, and Spirit of truth is just as active in true believers and true worshipers since the day of Pentecost. Servants of God are not left without the promise that Jesus made to his disciples concerning the indwelling of the Holy Spirit (John 12:15-21; Luke 24:49,50).

Regardless of what many will say and have said negatively concerning the Holy Spirit–the truth has already been spoken by Jesus Christ concerning the Holy Spirit, and it is the truth that will set you free (John 8:31,32). Satan the devil, the arch enemy of the Godhead (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) vehemently attacks the word of God to discredit it in every possible way that he can, and with the intentions of eventually destroying it entirely. He has been Jehovah God’s chief antagonist since iniquity (wickedness) was first found in him (Ezekiel 28:12-17).

Throughout the kingdom of darkness every effort is made every minute of the day to denounce the Godhead and to attribute every evil and disheartening deed (death, murder, sickness, disease) to their credit. Demons that oppose the word and will of Jehovah God wage a well organized concerted effort into the total discrediting and destruction of the word and will of the one true God.

Satan and his demons work through human beings who speak and act on behalf of the kingdom of darkness. Many of these individuals are extremely high profile government officials from around the world (however, most are everyday people), along with super popular entertainers (actors, actresses, singers, musicians, and even some artists) that have followers that number in the hundreds of millions. These high profile individuals who do this are filled with the “spirit of darkness” and they are used like pawns to do the bidding of their father and god (false god)–Satan the devil.

For true believers and true worshipers of the Most High God, every single day is filled with challenges and pressure from the dark side to frustrate their lives in an all out effort to turn them away from being servants of Jehovah God and disciples of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Through persecution and in many cases death, Satan unleashes an all out assault on Christians to get them to publicly denounce their faith and discontinue serving and worshiping Jehovah God.

Although it is true, many of our brethren of the faith, both men and women (children as well) have died tragic and horrible deaths because they refused to recant their faith, and they refused to allow persecution or even death (public executions; beheading; animal attacks) to cause them to denounce their faith and reject the Godhead (Father, Son, Holy Spirit).

“Some faced jeers and flogging, while others were chained and put in prison. They were stoned, they were sawed in two; they were put to death by the sword. They went about in sheepskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated–the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, and in caves and holes in the ground” (Hebrews 11:36-40).

Punishment and death has always been and still is Satan’s chief weapons for fighting against Christians around the world. Note: If you are a Christian without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit you are not even recognized by the kingdom of darkness as belonging to Christ! How can you be a Christian and not have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit? By living a lie. Although you profess to be a Christian, your actions speak louder and clearer than your words!

“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption” (Ephesians 4:30). Disobedience can and will lead to the grieving of the Holy Spirit. Unwilling to submit to the commands and precepts taught to us by Jesus Christ; rejecting the word of God is tantamount to rejecting Jesus Christ! We (Christians) cannot follow the world (Satan the devil) and expect everything to continue to be alright for us.

We cannot disregard the Holy Spirit time and time again and expect things to continue as normal. Each and every time we refuse to listen to the Holy Spirit we harden our hearts just a little bit more. Each and every time we give in to the desires of the flesh (heart) we grieve the Holy Spirit once again.

“Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world–the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has done and does–comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever” (1John 2:15-17).

The pursuit of the desires of our heart can lead us away from our heavenly Father. Focusing on acquiring material things that we desperately desire can and will lead us away from true service to God. Time and time again many of us have tried to tip-toe back into the world for just a wee-bit; just for a moment to enjoy something that our hearts have gone after, but each and every time we do this we grieve the Holy Spirit of God and we open the door for even greater Satanic control! Make no mistake about it nothing goes unnoticed by the Father or by the kingdom of darkness.

Our slipping back into darkness for whatever reason is a direct affront to the Most High God who gave His Son, Jesus Christ, to become the living human sacrifice whose blood washed away all our sins and gave us a new birth in Christ. And in addition to that God sent His Holy Spirit to dwell within us to help us live a holy and righteous life before God and man. But after all this, when we willfully choose to do what is contrary to God’s will, we jeopardize our new found freedom in Christ and risk being rejected by God–forever!

“And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve Him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek Him, He will be found of thee: but if thou forsake Him, He will cast the off for ever” (1Chronicles 28:9).

It would be a shame to fall away from serving the one true God only to return to worshiping Satan the devil once again; the possibility of being forsaken by God becomes greater and greater each time we return to darkness. Once you have been forsaken by God repentance is no longer an option.

“We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. For if the message spoken by angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, how shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard Him. God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to His will” (Hebrew 2:1-4).

That is why it is so important to discontinue willful sinning against God, and grieving the Holy Spirit to the point of its departure. It’s true as human beings we inherited sin and we are sinful by nature, but we who are saved and have been baptized and washed in the precious blood of the Lamb, and received God’s Holy Spirit have the power to fight our sinful inclinations victoriously! We belong to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and we also have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit–we have what the world does not have. Hallelujah! We have the victory over sin through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ (1Corinthians 15:57).

None of us have to return to following the world, which in essence is following the prince of darkness–Satan the devil. To give up what we have in Christ to return to following the prince of darkness is just as the author of proverbs mention: as a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly (Proverbs 26:11).

Together, we need to earnestly pray for one another without ceasing, and we should strive each and every day to be more Christ like. Jesus saith unto him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh to the Father, but by be” (John 14:6). And in another place Jesus said, “Follow me: and let the dead bury the dead” (Matthew 8:22).

It’s imperative that all Christians pick up their cross and follow Jesus. Our desires to follow and participate in the world are destructive and self serving, and it also takes a considerable toll on our ability to testify on behalf of Jesus Christ. We are to be lights that shine in darkness to help bring those to Christ who are bound and shackled by Satanic forces.

But if we have abandon our faith and have gone back into the world we really don’t have a testimony anymore. We are no help to anyone that is held captive in darkness by Satan the devil because we ourselves have become captives all over again due to the lust in our own heart. What a waste! What a shame.

While you are still among the living; you who have abandon Christ and gone back into the world, return today to the the author of your salvation and repent of your sins and ask Jehovah God from the bottom of your heart to forgive you for what you have done. God the Father is a merciful and gracious God that wants all of mankind to receive salvation and to reap eternal life.

It is not Jehovah God’s will that anyone be lost and damned, but for anyone to continue to trample over His Son, Jesus Christ, who willingly gave His life on the cross for the remission of sins for the whole world; after receiving the Holy Spirit, is in jeopardy of eternal damnation! It’s just that serious (Hebrews 10:26-31.)

If you have wondered away from your faith in Christ here’s an opportunity for you to pray with me: Holy Father, I come before you tonight in Jesus name asking for forgiveness of the sins and transgressions that I have sinned against you. Have mercy on my soul Father and forgive me for all the wrong I have done. Father I repent of all my sins and I humbly ask that you will grant me forgiveness. I willfully sinned against you after you had washed me in the precious blood of your Son Jesus Christ, and I willfully trampled over the Holy Spirit through my rebelliousness.

Father God, allow me to come back and pick up my cross and follow Jesus Christ, and I commit to you this time wholeheartedly and I will seek to serve you all the days of my life. Father, I know I have been a disloyal servant and a soldier who betrayed his faith who doesn’t deserve to be allowed to return to his Lord and Saviour, but Holy Father, please have mercy on me and please give me another opportunity to turn my life around and do your will. In Jesus name I pray Amen.

Continue to pray in your own words from the bottom of your heart to God through His Son Jesus Christ. Study the Holy Scriptures and make every effort to stand up as a soldier for Christ this time; one that is loyal and trustworthy that will fight to the end, but note what Apostle Paul said about being a soldier for the Lord and fighting his battle: “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in heavenly realms.”

Apostle Paul went on to say, “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.”

In conclusion Apostle Paul admonishes all Christians both past and present to, “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for the saints.” (Ephesians 6:10-18). As Christians our weapons are not bombs, grenades, assault rifles and bayonets, but our weaponry is purely “spiritual” (the word of God and prayer). That’s all…and that’s all we need. Amen.

As brethren in Christ we must continue to pray for each other on all occasions whether we know one another or not. We wrestle against demons–evil spirits as well as our own sinful nature, but together we can support each other through love and understanding. Jesus commanded us to love one another..just like He has loved us (John 15:12). Together we can strengthen each other, and united we can stand together–undivided, if we remain in Christ (John 15:17).

If you have never received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour–why not tonight? Why not allow the prince of peace into your heart right now? Jesus is always standing at the door of your heart waiting patiently for you to allow Him to come in. His love for you is real and alive and He wants you to come to Him. It is not Jesus will that anyone be shackled and bound by the powers of darkness; instead, He wants us all to find peace with Him (Matthew 11:29,30).

Please accept this invitation to Christ if you have not known Him nor accepted Him into your life as your Lord and Saviour. Please pray with me: Holy Father I have lived a sinful and wicked life before you Father, and my sins and transgressions testify against me to this very moment, but Holy Father I repent of all my sins that I have ever sinned before you, and I humbly ask for forgiveness from the bottom of my heart.

Father God, I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour and I give my life to Christ without any reservations at all. Father, wash me in the precious blood of the Lamb and cleanse me of all my sins and transgressions. Create in me a clean heart and give me your “Holy Spirit” to guide and teach me how to live my life for Jesus Christ. In Jesus name I pray. Amen. Hallelujah! Praise God Almighty! Let all God’s servants shout Hallelujah! Thank you heavenly Father in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

You are now saved! (Romans 10:9) Hallelujah! The Holy Bible reassures us that when one sinner is saved the angels in heaven rejoice! (Luke 15:7) That’s how important each and every one of us is to God the Father and our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, as well as the heavenly host (angels). Now you must learn to pray always (in your own words and from your heart) and study the “Holy Bible”. Ask God to give you His “Holy Spirit” to guide and instruct you on what you must do, and He will lovingly do this.

And we ask that you continue to pray for us your brethren in Christ, as we will continue to pray for you and all of our brethren in Christ around the world. Hallelujah! As we conclude this sermon please continue to press on forward in Jesus’ name. Stay strong and stand on the word (holy scriptures) of God and don’t give up. Don’t allow the prince of darkness to turn you around–he will certainly do all that he can to separate you from the love of Christ; but don’t you let him. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen and amen.
